About Andalusia

Andalusia is the largest autonomous community in Spain (it occupies 17% of the whole of Spain), as well as the most "Spanish" part of Spain, since it is here that the Spanish spirit and culture are most vividly expressed. Andalucia is located in the south of the country, and consists of 8 provinces: Almeria, Cadiz, Cordoba, Granada, Huelva, Jaena, Malaga, Seville. The capital of Andalusia is Seville, the highest point is the summit of Mount Mulacen in the Sierra Nevada chain (3478 m), the second largest is Veleta (3392 m). Andalusia ranks first in the country in terms of population, second in area, and third in total GDP. Autonomy has a status that allows it to make important decisions independently of the central government and is governed by Parliament and the government, which is formed by the party that won the elections. The highest legislative and executive authorities are located in the capital of the autonomous Republic, while the Supreme Court is located in Granada. Andalusia is located in the southern part of the Iberian Peninsula and has access to the Mediterranean Sea (Almeria, Granada and Malaga) and the Atlantic Ocean (Cadiz). The autonomy borders two foreign countries — Gibraltar and Portugal, as well as the Spanish autonomous territories: Extremadura, Castile-la Mancha and the region of Murcia.
Andalusia's most famous river, the Guadalquivir (657 km), is the longest in the autonomous region and the fifth in the country. Andalusia is rich in diverse natural landscapes: desert, steppe and wooded areas. Among the landscapes of Andalusia: swampy Cadiz, the snow-capped mountains of Granada, arid Almeria and the blue sea of Malaga.
150 landscape areas of the autonomy make up the Network of Natural Protected Areas of Andalusia (Red de Espacios Naturales Protegidos de Andalucia — RENPA), including 2 National Parks, 24 nature reserves, 32 natural landscapes, 2 geoparks and others, which in turn are part of the pan-European Environmental Protection Network Red Natura 2000. Among the animals living in protected natural areas, listed in the Red Book: Iberian wolf, Iberian lynx, badger, ferret, weasel, mongoose, mountain cat.
Andalusia is the birthplace of flamenco and bullfighting. No fair in Andalusia takes place without bullfighting.
The autonomy has a well-developed network of highways, sea and air connections, allowing access to the region from anywhere on earth. Tourists come here with pleasure thanks to the sparkling spectacular fiestas that incorporate Arab and Christian traditions, legendary flamenco festivals, excellent cuisine, unique attractions, and hot and long summers.
